This unique course, over two days, is designed for health professionals wishing to gain increased knowledge and practical skills in the support of patients with a range of Sleep Disorders and those requiring Non Invasive Ventilation; Bi-Level and CPAP from the Intensive Care Unit to the community carer.
Day 1: Sleep: the how, why & the what - skills for your toolkit
Topics include normal sleep - how & why,; Comorbid sleep issues - COPD, CHF, Depression; Fatigue & safety; Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) management; CPAP adherence; How we monitor sleep - CPAP, oximetry, limited channel monitoring; Case study & panel discussion
*Option to attend the evening quarterly meeting of the Australasian Sleep Association Vic Branch which is on that evening after the course
Day 2: The Pressure to Breathe - the skills for success with NIV
Topics include NIV for acute COPD, Acute Pulmonary Oedema & Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome; High flow nasal oxygen - new & emerging techniques; Perioperative management & weaning; Humidification & tracheostomy; Practical session - hands on with equipment; Case study & panel discussion.
