About the Centre
Working with colleagues and partners for over 25 years, the Lung Health Promotion Centre has facilitated workshops, seminars and courses covering the broad classification of Respiratory Health for Medical and Allied Health professionals.
Setup within the arms of The Alfred’s Respiratory department, the centre has focused on education for Health professionals, with many leading presenters in Asthma and Smoking Education starting their education journeys at the Centre.
The Centre has presented the majority of its portfolio of courses from the Alfred, with specialist Asthma, COPD, Smoking Cessation and Spirometry courses presented in regional Victoria and Tasmania.
Although 2020 and COVID has presented many a challenge, and limited opportunities for face to face education (especially for those practicing in a Respiratory context), it also created new opportunities with Live Webinar and Self directed learning now options.
Feedback has been overwhelming positive, and taking on suggestions from both presenters and attendees has allowed us to fine tune what works, what could be better and approaches to improve both interaction and learnings.
Services
The Centre’s team collaborates with presenters, PHN’s and other providers, to develop programmes tailored to specific audiences, based on speciality, location or access.
Existing courses can be customised for specific audiences, time restraints and/or the team are happy to work together on tender components for PHNs etc.
Course Costs and Centre Funding
We are often asked why hour courses, seminars and development days are not free.
The Lung Health Promotion Centre is self funded. Staff, Presenter, Venue and event fees are funded by course fees and resource sales.
Quality, in-depth education is not free.
The centre prides itself on providing evidence based offerings, presented by active practitioners, experts, scientists and specialists, to ensure material is accurate, relevant and useful to their audience.
